This inlet sump is used to collect water for the pump at the bottom of the dishwasher. It catches objects such as food and fallen dishes and prevents them from getting to the drain system. If there is water building up around the bottom of the dishwasher or leaking in front of it, the sump inlet is the most likely source. If the sump pump is the culprit, it will have to be removed and replaced to stop the leak.To start, disconnect the water and power from the dishwasher. Remove the dishwasher’s bottom rack, spray arm, and fine filter. Take the screws holding the dishwasher under the cabinet out and pull the machine out. Turn it on its back so that the bottom is accessible. Locate the clamps holding the connections to the sump pump and loosen them so that the sump pump comes out of the machine. Remove and replace the sump. Reassemble the dishwasher. Reconnect the power and water and test the machine for leaks. This inlet sump is a beige plastic part that is sold individually. This inlet sump is designed for use in dishwashers manufactured by General Electric.
