This flapper is part of the check valve assembly that prevents dirty water from backing up into the dishwasher during the drain cycle. If there is water in the bottom of the dishwasher after the wash and rinse cycle are finished, the check valve flapper should be checked. If the flapper is not working correctly, dishes may have food particles on them even after being washed. The dirty water from the wash cycle doesn’t drain completely, and during the rinse cycle, this water may splash up on the dishes. The check valve flapper should be replaced to correct this problem. Before starting, make sure to either unplug the appliance from the wall or switch off the breaker. Pull the dishwasher out and turn it on its back to access the bottom of the machine. Use a nut driver to disconnect the drain hose. Remove the pump and use a flathead screwdriver to pop the cover off to remove and replace the valve flapper.
