This is a genuine OEM replacement fuel filter for a Craftsman chainsaw. Before fuel passes into the combustion chamber, it first has to be oxygenated in the carburetor. This makes a perfectly balanced fuel that’s ready for ignition. However, if dirt, dust, or other particulates were to get into the carburetor, they would clog it up and cause more widespread engine troubles. To prevent this, manufacturers install a fuel filter in the fuel tank to catch any debris. Although dirt in a fuel tank isn’t a common problem, after repeated top ups, enough debris can fall into the tank to clog up the fuel filter. When this happens, fuel will not be able to pass into the carburetor and the engine will perform as if it isn’t getting any fuel. After draining the fuel tank, use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to remove the fuel line and change out the fuel filter.
